Every year 9 News and the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) team up to hold the “9 Pet Check” event. This fantastic, charitable event is geared toward educating the public on the value of annual physical exams for our pets as well as provide free exams and Rabies vaccines (since they are required by law) to those in need. We were fortunate enough to be able to participate in the 9PetCheck again this year, our second time. It is such a wonderful thing to be able to help so many animals and their special humans, and realize that these pets may not be fortunate enough to have access to health care unless we offered this valuable community service.
A few of the very special 4-legged friends we were able to help were:
Grace– a beautiful calico kitty who was abandoned in her previous owner’s home without food or water for 20 days before being rescued by her awesome current owners. To their surprise, Grace blessed them with a litter of 4 kittens a week later! We were able to make sure Grace was recovering well from her ordeal and that her kittens were healthy. Bless her new owners for opening their home to this family of 5!
Winey– an adorable little pit bull who has been plagued with horrible chronic allergy and arthritis problems for several years. She is such a happy little dog in the face of so much pain and discomfort. We were able to find cost effective options, that her dad didn’t know existed, that could help improve Winey’s quality of life greatly. She is much more comfortable and getting around easier now.
LJ– a happy and excited Labrador mix puppy that had never visited a veterinarian before. During the exam, Dr. Patten found several areas of hair loss and diagnosed him with demodex mites. If this condition had been left untreated it could have spread to his entire body and put his health and wellbeing in jeopardy. He has responded well to therapy and his hair is growing back.
In all, we were able to help 25 animals during the 9Pet Check. It was a phenomenal experience for both me and my staff to meet these exceptional animals and their owners. We will definitely be enthusiastically participating in this program next year!
